Politics in Belgium

The local elections took place in 2024 in Belgium - and in Leuven alone, 11,432 internationals were eligible to vote.

Throughout the summer we put together information to help international voters make informed decisions - and have included plenty of helpful information to learn more about Belgian politics even outside of an election cycle.

The next local elections are scheduled for 2030, but you can register to vote as soon as you are eligible so you don't have to remember to do it in 2030!

Key dates:

  • Voter registration deadline: Wednesday, 31 July
  • Final candidates announced: 20 September (24 Sept if there are delays)
  • Voting day: Sunday, 13 October
